Heartlight Director Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Director of Heartlight Aerobics in your area. Heartlight Aerobics is a project of California School Fitness, a non-profit organization serving over 6,000 children annually. For a low initiation fee, you can be a part of Team Heartlight! This letter contains background information on Heartlight Aerobics after school dance program for girls and boys in elementary schools and will direct you towards the next step in becoming a Program Director.

The children’s fitness industry is experiencing rapid growth.   There is a strong need for non-competitive programs that encourage participation by children of all athletic abilities and SES levels while reinforcing good exercise habits and teaching that EXERCISE IS FUN! Heartlight’s class format fosters self esteem and skill development while improving fitness levels among children. Our goal in Heartlight is that all children will develop sound lifelong exercise habits.

Classes follow ACSM, ACE and AFAA guidelines for exercise safety. Heartlight is a combination of dance and aerobics. Instructors lead choreographed routines which incorporate jazz, hip hop and aerobic dance. Each class is one hour and is held once a week in the school’s auditorium. Sessions last between six and eight weeks.

An important focus of Heartlight is the performance we stage each session. Students love to perform. You’ll watch them “shine” as they demonstrate their new skills. It is a fantastic feeling to watch your students on stage and to realize that you played a part in boosting their levels of confidence and self esteem.

Each session, Directors receive Heartlight routines on video and CD’s. Additionally, Directors receive cue sheets describing each routine. Directors rehearse the dances and train their instructors. All routines are safe and specifically choreographed for the special needs and enjoyment of elementary age children. Directors receive technical support, youth research updates and management and administrative guidance. As Director, you are part of the Heartlight Team! You will be acknowledged and recognized as a leader in the children’s fitness industry.

Enclosed with this letter, you will find a Personnel Information Sheet and also a sample contract. All personnel must satisfy the following requirements to be considered for the position of Director:

                                            3. Two letters of reference from professionals with

                                                    knowledge of your experience w/children

                                            4. Proof of current CPR certification

                                            5. Proof of ACE, AFAA, or comparable certification,

                                                     degree in a related field or comparable experience

                                            6. Livescan Receipt ~ Svc. form obtained from CSF
